Pounds are not newtons
A pound is a unit of mass; a newton is a unit of force. Converting between them needs gravity:
F = m × g
150 lb is 68.04 kg, and at standard gravity that weighs
68.04 × 9.80665 = 667.2 N.
The pound-force shortcut
Engineers avoid the whole problem with pound-force (lbf), defined as the weight of one pound of mass under standard gravity. That makes the conversion a fixed factor:
1 lbf = 4.4482216152605 N
Because the numbers are equal on Earth, lb and lbf are used interchangeably in everyday speech — which is fine until something leaves Earth or an equation needs consistent units.
Mass stays the same
Move to the Moon and your mass is identical while your weight drops to about a sixth. In free fall, weight is effectively zero and mass is unchanged — which is why astronauts float but still hurt if they collide with something.
