The method
brackets include an endpoint, parentheses exclude it
Brackets versus parentheses
A square bracket includes the endpoint; a round one excludes it. So [2, 5) means 2 ≤ x < 5 — two is in, five is out.
Infinity always takes a parenthesis, because it is not a number that can be included: (−∞, 3] is correct and [−∞, 3] is not.
